Greetings, 

 

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African-Americans, was founded on December 4, 1906 in Ithaca, New York.   Seven college men recognized the need for a strong bond of brotherhood to give service to our communities.

I am truly honored to welcome you to our website.  Beta Kappa Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated was founded on March 1, 1939 in beautiful, historic Charleston, South Carolina. Our chapter is the second oldest chapter in the state of South Carolina. 

 

Our charter members were:  Edward Burroughs, MD; William Clement; Reverend Matthew W. Davis; Frank DeCosta, Ph.D;  James Frasier; Arthur D. Green;  Frank Hayne, D.D.S.;  Charles T. Holloway, D.D.S.; W. Winston Jones, D.D.S.; Augustus G. Purvis, M.D; Thomas Carr McFall, M.D.; William M. Thorne, M.D.; and Clinton I. Young.

 

Our fraternity continues to be involved in special projects and programs to assist communities through leadership, scholarship, and service such as:

  • Project Alpha

  • Go-to-High School, Go-to-College

  • A Voteless People is a Hopeless People

  • Brothers’ Keeper
